Commission drops pan-European language network (Europolitics)

The European Commission has decided not to continue to finance the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity (NPLD). This pan-European network brings together organisations supporting constitutional, regional and smaller-state (CRSS) languages. Some 50 million EU citizens, around 10% of the EU population, speak a regional or minority language. Whilst previously so-called CRSS languages had a specific budget line, since 2007 they have been forced to compete within a wider multilingualism pool. Read more...
