Multilingual Urban Space: Policy, Identity, Education (call for paper)

Ultima actualizare: 16 Ian 2019

12-13 april 2019, Moscow, Russia

Call deadline: 1st February 2019

Rapid processes of globalization, internationalization of commerce, on the one hand and lack of economic opportunities as well as local and international conflicts on the other, have intensified the movement of population across the globe. In addition, revolutionary technological advancement, that has made linguistic and cultural boundaries highly permeable over the last couple of decades, has contributed to what is known today as super-diversity (Vertovec, 2007). A number of recent studies (see, for example, Blommaert, 2003, Rampton et al, 2015; Taylor-Leech and Liddicoat, 2014; Smackam and Heinrich, 2018 among others) have tried to capture and explain the dynamic multilingual character of cities from sociolinguistic, historic, educational and socio-political standpoints.

The conference is going to be held at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) within the framework of XX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development 2019.
